Geely’s Radar RD6 PHEV Ute: Built for Long Range and Aussie Roads
The Radar RD6 — Geely’s electric ute — is now available with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) upgrade. Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, this dual-cab ute now boasts a combined driving range of over 1000km, thanks to its hybrid system. That’s almost double the 517km range of the all-electric version.
Geely’s innovative “Thor EM-i” super hybrid system is at the heart of the RD6 PHEV, blending a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission and an LFP battery. It seamlessly shifts between petrol, electric, or a mix of both to suit the terrain — including steep climbs and rough off-road tracks.

Ready for Aussie Roads – and MRT Canopies
When the Radar RD6 lands in Australia, MRT will be ready. Our Tradesman Package and Explorer Package will be tailored to suit this exciting new model — ensuring drivers get the most out of both their vehicle and their setup.
Built with touring, trades and off-grid adventuring in mind, our canopies are a smart match for the RD6’s unique combination of power, utility, and cutting-edge tech. Whether you’re towing, touring or working from remote sites, MRT’s aluminium canopies are engineered to go the distance.
Advanced Hybrid Power with “Thor” Efficiency
The Radar RD6 PHEV is Geely’s first ute to integrate the Thor EM-i hybrid platform, delivering excellent performance while maintaining fuel efficiency. The system includes a “dual-motor redundancy” feature, meaning it can still operate even if one motor fails — a key reliability feature for demanding conditions.
Tested across 40 million kilometres and over 400,000 hours in challenging environments — including high altitude and sub-zero conditions — the hybrid system is proven tough. It also delivers a thermal efficiency of 44.26% and reduces fuel consumption by 21% compared to traditional petrol utes.
Built for Load, Speed and Connectivity
With a 0–100km/h time of 6.5 seconds and braked towing capacity of up to 3000kg, the RD6 isn’t short on performance. The monocoque design and independent suspension give it a smoother ride than ladder-frame rivals, and its intelligent connectivity options — like the Omni Stack and “Shuttle” platform — mean you can even control drones or appliances remotely.
A Global Rollout with Local Plans
While the ute launched in China under the Radar name, export models — including those destined for Australia — are expected to wear the Riddara badge. Trademark issues have prevented the use of “Radar” locally. However, Geely has confirmed that a dual-cab ute will be sold in Australia, and local spec tuning will ensure it fits our conditions.
As electric and hybrid utes gain momentum, the RD6 is poised to compete directly with options like the BYD Shark 6, Ford Ranger PHEV and GWM Cannon Alpha.
At MRT, we’re already gearing up to support this shift. Once the RD6 PHEV arrives in Australia, our canopy packages will be ready to go — designed to match its specs, support your load, and elevate your experience.
