Figures from a government database reveal that the “2025 Z Utility Shark Base 4×4” variant is set to be priced at $68,000 before on-road costs. Although labeled as a “Base” model, this price point may actually reflect a more feature-packed version, as the lineup is expected to include multiple options. Final pricing will be revealed by BYD’s local distributor in October, leaving some room for potential adjustments before the ute’s official release.

At this price, the BYD Shark aims to compete with other mid-range models, like the Ford Ranger XLT 4×4 V6, which is priced at $68,840 before on-roads, and the Toyota HiLux Rogue V-Active Technology, which starts at $71,530 before on-roads.

BYD Shark Powertrain and Specifications

The BYD Shark is equipped with a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain. It features a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a Blade battery pack. Chinese specifications detail a ute measuring 5457mm in length, 1971mm in width, 1925mm in height, and having a wheelbase of 3260mm.

The plug-in hybrid drivetrain delivers a combined output of 320kW, with a 170kW/310Nm motor at the front and a 150kW/340Nm motor at the rear. This setup allows the Shark to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. With a 30kWh battery pack, the Shark has an electric-only range of about 100km based on the NEDC test cycle. The overall combined range, utilising the full PHEV system, is estimated at 850km, and it can achieve fuel consumption as low as 1.5 litres per 100km with a fully charged battery.

Designed for versatility, the Shark boasts an impressive payload capacity of 835kg, a rear tray volume of 1450 litres, and a braked towing capacity of 2500kg. It has a ground clearance of 282mm, making it well-suited for various terrains.
