2025 Toyota Tundra Platinum: Toyota’s New Flagship Rolls Into Australia
Introduction
The new 2025 Toyota Tundra Platinum has landed in Aussie showrooms, marking a significant upgrade to Toyota’s full-size pick-up line-up. With its luxury features and rugged capabilities, it’s a compelling option for those needing both performance and comfort. At MRT, we’re excited to see how this new model integrates with our own canopy solutions, perfectly complementing the needs of adventurous Aussies.
Key Takeaways:
- The new Toyota Tundra Platinum offers premium interior and exterior upgrades over the Limited model.
- It’s designed for drivers who demand top-level comfort and performance from their full-size pick-up.
- MRT’s Tradesman and Explorer canopy packages are ready to enhance the Tundra’s versatility even further.
Premium Features and Price Point
Toyota has lifted the bar with the Tundra Platinum, now available at $172,990 — a significant $17,000 jump from the Limited’s $155,990 price tag. While it’s a hefty investment, buyers get a long list of luxurious features that take the driving experience to the next level.
Inside, the Platinum’s cabin is decked out with striking ‘blue and black’ genuine leather, 10-way power adjustment for the front passenger, and a massaging function for the front seats. Rear passengers aren’t left out either, with heated and ventilated outboard rear seats. Additional upgrades include a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable steering column, and a 10.9-inch head-up display.
The Tundra Limited, by comparison, features black synthetic leather, eight-way power adjustment, two-way lumbar support, and heating and ventilation limited to the front seats. Both variants feature a 14-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker JBL sound system, and Toyota’s full suite of Safety Sense driver assistance features.
Engineered for Australian Roads
Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations, highlighted the challenges and triumphs of re-engineering the Tundra for Australian roads:
“When we set out to re-engineer the US-built Tundra for right-hand drive, we knew it was uncharted territory for Toyota,” Hanley said. “With the help of Walkinshaw, we’ve managed to deliver a vehicle that meets Toyota’s high-quality standards.”
The Tundra Platinum is built on Toyota’s TNGA-F ladder frame, shared with models like the Prado and 300 Series, ensuring rugged reliability. It measures 5955mm in length and 2040mm in width, with a 3700mm wheelbase.
Power and Performance
Under the bonnet, both Platinum and Limited grades house Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX powertrain, featuring a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine paired with a 36kW electric motor. This hybrid system delivers a combined output of 326kW and 790Nm, making it more than capable of towing up to 4500kg (braked). Drivers also benefit from two towing modes, a trailer brake controller, and a trailer back-up guide — all essential for those who work and play with heavy loads.
