MRTXEXPLORANGER

We invited Daniel, the owner of the popular Youtube channel ‘Exploranger’ to go behind the scenes with our team to build the ultimate setup for his new rig!

Together, we have had a blast designing this tray and canopy setup and making his dream package come to life.

“The whole process was unreal and I'm stoked to have such an impressive tray + canopy package on the back of the DMAX.”

- Daniel Sands, Exploranger

Daniel recently purchased a brand new 2022 Isuzu DMAX to replace his faithful old Ford Ranger which also had an MRT canopy (watch the video of how Daniel’s old setup faired here).

The new setup included our brand new aluminium ute tray kitted out with our 355 model of LED tail lights, an undertray drawer, 4x4 underbody toolboxes, a rope rail set and flared mudguards.

To match the ‘Tray Only Model’, Daniels order included a dual cab aluminium ute canopy in flat alloy with a powder coat finish in our GV8, kitted out with internal supports, lift-off system, jack clamps, the MRT keyless entry system, an X-Series adjustable spare wheel carrier, an X-series Jerry can holder and an X-Series pantry.

THE FINISHES

Flat Aluminium with a GV8 Powdercoat

Through Daniels build we used a GV8 powder coat which is one of our most popular finishes and gives a tough black look. On both the canopy and the under tray toolboxes we used a flat alloy rather than a checker plate finish to give the smooth look that compliments the powder coat finish.

TRAY BUILD

Dual Cab Aluminium Ute Tray - Tray Only Model 1650x1800mm

The Dual Cab Trays at MRT come in two lengths: 1650mm and 1800mm. Daniel decided to keep it a little bit shorter with our 1650mm tray only option. This was due to wanting it to be as compact as possible with the rear accessories he chose to be mounted at the back. For width, Daniel went with the 1800mm which keeps a very nice profile with the DMAX. We have powder coated the face-panel of the tray to match in with the remainder of Daniel’s accessories.

FLARED MUD GUARDS

To ensure we meet the legal obligation of covering the wheel and tyres, Daniel has chosen to go with the flared mud guards. These have been powder coated in the GV8 finish to match the rest of the tray and canopy setup.

Features

  • Heavy-duty 3mm Aluminium
  • Provides 45mm per side extra coverage over wheels, allowing up to 90mm wider wheel width than the ute tray.
  • Powdercoat options available

MRT2S 4x4 Rear Sloped Underbody Toolboxes

Daniel chose to go with the sloped 4x4 Undertray toolboxes in the MRT2S model. These underbodies were made in a flat alloy finish and have also been powdercoated in the GV8 to match the rest of the tray and canopy setup.

ROPE RAIL SET

Daniel chose to go the partial rope rail set for his tray and canopy setup. Our heavy duty rope rails are strong and enhance the entire look of your vehicle whilst also helping you secure your load to your tray. This will be especially useful as Daniel went with a lift-off canopy and as such he will have full use of his tray whenever he requires.

UNDERTRAY DRAWER

Our under tray drawers feature slam-shut locking and a strong drawer lid that can be used as both a drawer and a work bench or DIY camp kitchen. Daniel chose to have the faceplate of his undertray drawer powder coated in the GV8 to match the rest of his tray and canopy setup.

LED Tail Light 355 Tapered Upgrade

Daniel chose to go with our sleek new 355 model LED tail light. The new LED tail lights have a sequential indicator which paired with the GV8 powdercoat on the faceplate gives that clean, sweeping look.

CANOPY BUILD

Dual Cab Aluminium Ute Canopy - 1650x1800mm

The Dual Cab Canopies at MRT come standard in two different lengths and widths: 1650mm and 1800mm (we also have the option to customise both dimensions). Daniel went with the 1650mm x 1800mm to match his tray. He decided on having a 2 door canopy so that we could fit the range of rear accessories he wanted. As discussed above in the powder-coat section: the canopy came in a flat alloy finish and we used a GV8 powder coat.

Internal Supports

With our internal supports options we swap out our standard C-section bracing that sits underneath the roof for a more heavy duty 40x40 RHS frame. We recommend this option if you intend on using the canopy to support any large or heavy items on the roof. Daniel had a roof top tent installed on his setup and as such the internal supports were definitely needed.

LIFT-OFF SYSTEM

Our lift-off system is a great option for those that want to switch between using their canopy and their tray. It gives you the option to lift the canopy off and use your tray as needed. We build our lift-off canopy with a full sub-floor, we have four jack points and the package also includes the four legs required to move the canopy. The sub floor is fully reinforced which allows you to leave all of your gear inside the canopy and simply wind the legs to remove it from your vehicle. Daniel mentioned this was one of his favourite features on his previous MRT canopy.

Jack-off clamps

We have the option to add our quick release lift-off clamps as an extra to your lift-off system. These easy-unlock clamps give you the ability to quickly remove your canopy from your tray. We have these in two styles: our standard range and our lockable lift-off clamps. Daniel went with our lockable clamps.

KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM

The MRT innovative keyless entry system allows you to access your heavy-duty MRT ute canopy or toolbox promptly and with ease. On Daniel’s old setup he installed one of our DIY kits (watch the video) and he told us that since giving it a go he wouldn’t ever have a canopy without one.

SPARE WHEEL CARRIER

Daniel chose to have our new spare wheel carrier powder coated in the GV8 (to match the rest of his tray and canopy setup) and mounted on the rear of his canopy.

  • MRT exclusive design
  • 2-Way adjustable design to accommodate different size wheel and tyres

CANOPY LADDER

Daniel chose to have our new canopy ladder powder coated in the GV8 (to match the rest of his tray and canopy setup) and mounted on the rear of his canopy.

  • Grip lines on rungs for anti-slip
  • Stainless steel hardware
